3 Tips for Decorating Your Garage Door This Holiday Season

Your neighbours have hung up lights and put up decorations in their yards to get into the holiday spirit. You certainly don’t want to be left out, you want to decorate your home too. Yet, you and your family are very busy, so you don’t have the time for elaborate lights and displays. You may also be on a budget and don’t have the extra money to spend.

Whether you are busy or on a budget, you do not have to let these things stop you from adding a little bit of holiday magic to the exterior of your home. If you have a garage door, you have a large blank canvas just waiting to be decorated for the holiday season.

A word of caution though, if you plan on opening and closing your garage door, DO NOT place decorations in locations along the door seams that could interfere with the door opening and closing.

Tip #1: Use Holiday Magnets and Vinyl Stickers

If you have a metal garage door, magnets are a great way to transform your garage door. Plus, magnets can easily be moved around until you are satisfied with how your garage door holiday display looks. Not to mention, you can reuse them year after year.

If your garage door isn’t made of metal, vinyl stickers will do the trick. You want removable vinyl because this will not pull the paint off your garage door. Certain types of vinyl stickers can also be reused if you save the backing. If you have windows on your garage door, you can use vinyl decals to further enhance your display.

Tip #2: Use a Projector with Holiday Scenes

A quick and easy way to decorate your garage door without much fuss is to buy an outdoor projector. You can find ones that have holiday scenes preloaded and others that allow you to download and add new scenes. Just make sure to get one that is designed for outdoor use and exposure to the elements.

If you have a light coloured garage door, you won’t need to do much else than plug the projector in and turn it on. You may even be able to put it on a timer so it automatically turns on and off each night.

If you have a darker coloured garage door, you will want to secure the white plastic screen to the door. Make sure to cut it along the seams for each door panel if you plan on using your garage door.

Tip #3: Use a Large Red Bow

You could transform your garage door into a huge present simply by adding a large red bow. Simply run ribbon horizontally along one door panel. For the vertical ribbon, cut it into individual pieces and secure each piece around the individual panels.
